Why We Bottle in Glass

Microplastics have generally become a growing concern in the skincare industry given their potential presence in product formulas and packaging. Microplastics are tiny plastic particles less than 5 millimeters in size, which can be categorized into two types: primary and secondary. Primary microplastics are intentionally added to products like exfoliants, while secondary microplastics arise from the degradation of plastic packaging. Over time, plastic containers used in skincare can break down, shedding microplastics into the product, which can then be absorbed by the skin or washed into the environment. These particles pose environmental risks and could potentially interfere with skin health.

Secondary microplastics, which are created through the gradual breakdown of plastic packaging, pose a hidden threat, one we do not take lightly at Ages. Plastic degrades slowly, and as skincare products sit in plastic containers, especially when exposed to heat or light, tiny particles of plastic may leach into the product. These microplastics can disrupt the skin's natural barrier, cause irritation, and result in neurotoxicity and oxidative stress in the body. The cumulative impact of microplastics in skincare goes beyond personal health, as they can end up in water sources when rinsed off the body, harming marine ecosystems and contributing to broader environmental contamination. According to this study, It is estimated that there are approximately 5.25 trillion plastic particles in the oceans, which together add up to almost 269 thousand tons. Approximately 280 million tons of plastic materials are produced worldwide each year, which are often not disposed of correctly and remain in the oceans, soil, landfills and dumps.

At Ages, we take this issue seriously, which is why we choose glass packaging for all our products. Glass does not degrade into microplastics and provides a safer, more sustainable option for housing our natural ingredients. Additionally, we ensure that no primary microplastics are present in our formulas, as we prioritize the purity and safety of our natural, plant-based ingredients. By using natural formulations and eco-friendly glass containers, we offer a healthier, cleaner skin care experience for our customers, without the hidden risks of microplastics. Our commitment to transparency and sustainability is something we can promise to you as part of the Ages Community. Our goal is to help protect both your body and the planet. Age Well.
